Not at all. They are here for anyone who likes to understand a treatment before discussing it, but you are welcome to come in knowing nothing about aligners and ask us everything from scratch. Explaining how treatment works is part of what a consultation is for.

We examine your teeth, gums, and bite, take the imaging we need to see what is happening below the surface, and talk through what you would like to change about your smile. You will leave knowing whether aligners suit your case, roughly how long treatment would take, and what it would cost. There is no obligation to proceed.

You wear a sequence of clear, removable aligners, each shaped slightly differently from the last. Each one applies gentle pressure that moves specific teeth a small amount, and moving through the series gradually brings your teeth to their planned positions. We check periodically that the movement is tracking to plan and adjust if it is not.

Around twenty to twenty-two hours daily. In practice they stay in except when you are eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning your teeth. This is the single biggest factor in whether treatment finishes on schedule, because aligners do nothing while they are sitting in their case.

Most people do not. The aligners are thin and clear, which is the main reason patients choose them over fixed braces. If your plan includes attachments, those are small and tooth-coloured. You may be more conscious of them in the first week than anyone around you ever will be.
