The importance of a healthy, well-aligned smile
Good occlusion refers to teeth and jaws that are well aligned and in functional harmony. In addition to being straight and neither crowded nor gapped, the upper and lower teeth should meet in a specific way. A healthy occlusion not only supports comfortable jaw movement, but it also helps to protect the health of the teeth, the supporting periodontal tissues, and optimal temporomandibular joint (TMJ) function.
Whether you need a few teeth straightened or more complex alignment of your smile, Invisalign® treatment provides solutions for almost every smile.
Precision-made of the most advanced materials and incorporating features designed to the exact specifications of your smile, Invisalign® aligners can address a broad range of malocclusions, including dental crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites.

Return to Invisalign®Frequently Asked Questions
Clear aligners address a broad range of alignment issues, including crowded teeth, gaps and spacing, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites. Cases vary enormously in complexity, so the useful question is not whether aligners can treat your type of problem in general but whether they can treat yours specifically. That is what an examination establishes.
No. Teeth respond to gentle, sustained pressure at any age, and a substantial share of orthodontic patients today are adults. What matters far more than age is the health of your gums and the bone supporting your teeth. Provided that foundation is sound, treatment is entirely reasonable at fifty as at fifteen.
Active gum disease or untreated decay need addressing before any tooth movement begins, though that usually delays treatment rather than rules it out. Some complex bite corrections and certain types of tooth movement remain more predictable with fixed braces. And realistically, a patient who knows they will not wear a removable appliance for twenty-plus hours a day may be better served by braces. We will tell you plainly which category you fall into.
Generally the permanent teeth should be through, including the second molars, before aligner treatment. For younger patients still in mixed dentition, it is often a question of timing rather than suitability, and there can be good reasons to wait. Imaging shows us exactly where you or your child are in that process.
Attachments are small tooth-coloured shapes bonded to certain teeth to give the aligner something to grip, allowing movements that would otherwise be difficult to achieve. Many treatment plans include them. They are discreet, they are removed at the end of treatment, and whether you need them depends on which teeth have to move and how.
Book a consultation. We examine your teeth, gums, and bite, take the imaging needed to see what is happening below the surface, and talk through what you want to change about your smile. You will leave knowing whether you are a suitable candidate, what treatment would involve, roughly how long it would take, and what it would cost, with no obligation to proceed.
That is your call to make, and there is no wrong answer. Some patients are bothered by something barely visible to anyone else, which is reason enough. There is also a functional argument: teeth that meet properly wear more evenly and are easier to keep clean. But mild irregularity that neither troubles you nor causes a problem does not have to be treated.
